Is Your Air Conditioner Ready for Spring?
It’s been a cold winter so you are most likely happily looking forward to the warmer temperatures of the upcoming spring. However, those warm temperatures won’t just bring you relief from the harsh cold, they can also start to climb high enough to make your home uncomfortable without an efficiently running air conditioning system. Just like you want to make sure you have a well running heater for winter you will want to do the same for your AC unit come spring. There are a handful of things that can go wrong with your system in the offseason and you certainly don’t want to end up in a heatwave without sufficient cooling from your air conditioning. Consider these things below when making sure your air conditioning is ready for spring!
-
Clear Out Dust
When a system hasn’t been used for awhile during its off season it’s perfectly normal for it to collect some dust and mites as well as pet sheddings but if you don’t clean out your system these particles can then be circulated in your air once you start using your air conditioning. This can cause poor indoor air quality and be bad for your health as well as your AC system. To get your air conditioning ready for spring you may want to use an indoor air purifier to get rid of any of these unwanted air particles.Â
-
Do an Early Run
A simple way to see if your air conditioning unit is running well is to go ahead and give it a trial run ahead of the peak warm season. If you run the system it can give you a good indication if there may be any problems that require maintenance or repairs. Look out for signs like leaking, no cool air, or strange noises. Make sure you leave the system on for a significant period of time to check that it runs a full cycle without shutting off early and no issues occur.

Look Beyond Your System
It’s always a good idea to consider issues beyond those within your air conditioning unit itself. Things like proper insulation and well-running thermostats can make a big difference in the overall efficiency of your air conditioning.Â
